Psychometric properties of the Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (IERQ) in Turkish samples
Özet
Intrapersonal emotion regulation is accepted to have an important role on mental health. However, research investigating the effects of interpersonal emotion regulation on mental health is still in its infancy. The objective of the current study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (IERQ) in Turkish samples. For this purpose, IERQ was translated into Turkish and psychometric properties of the scale were examined in two different samples. Structural, concurrent, and criterion validity, as well as reliability analyses, were conducted. Results confirmed the four-factor structure of the original scale. Supporting concurrent validity, IERQ score revealed moderate correlations with the measures of intrapersonal emotion regulation and interpersonal problems. Results of criterion validity analysis revealed that IERQ score
successfully differentiated the group with low interpersonal problems from the group with high. The twenty-item Turkish IERQ appeared to be a reliable and valid measure of interpersonal emotion regulation.
