Abstract
Asscientific and technological advancements continue to progress, the applications of radiation are expanding day by day. The increased use of radiation has led to a corresponding rise in the number of people exposed to it. Living in close proximity to radiation poses biological risks to living organisms. This is especially true for individuals working in radiation-related fields who are required to be exposed to radiation as part of their duties. One of the three fundamental principles of radiation protection is shielding. Although lead has historically been the most widely used shielding material, its toxic properties have spurred ongoing research into new shielding materials. For this purpose, various materials such as glass, polymers, and composites are being developed and their radiation permeability is beingexamined. Advancements in the development of new shielding materials play a vital role in enhancing our ability to protect against the potentially harmful effects of radiation exposure. In this study, the photon interaction parameters of Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose polymer, including Attenuation Coefficients, Half Value Layer, Tenth Value Layer, and Radiation Protection Efficiency, were calculated in the energy range of 0.1-10 MeV using PHITS 3.22 and MCNP6 Monte Carlo simulations. These results were then compared with theoretical calculations from WINXCOM.
