Cities, which are a product of human and environmental interaction, are the places where people from different income groups live together and are transformed by the effects of changes in social, cultural, physical and political issues. in the social-cultural and physical structures of the cities, and the fact of gentrification, sometimes spontaneous, and sometimes carried out by the state and local governments. Especially urban parts in Istanbul, where the physical environment has been damaged and various social problems are experienced have been gentrified since the 1980s. Gentrification refers to the dominance of a senior income group through the exchange of property over time, by living in a certain region and being displaced by the citizens of a certain income group. Asmalımescit, one of the historic neighborhoods of Beyoglu, is located on the axis extending from İstiklal Caddesi to Tunel Asmalımescit neighborhood, which is known for its bohemian lifestyle, has always been one of the important focal points of the city due to its central location throughout history At the beginning of the 1900's, while hosting the artists of Istanbul, as a result of immigrations and political events in the historical process, the region has undergone social and physical changes. The image of the Asmalımescit neighborhood, which continues to undergo social and physical changes in 1990 and afterwards, has changed with the shifting of night life in Beyoğlu to this region since the year 2000. Especially in recent years, increasing cultural-oriented approaches to tourism, the desire of tourists to experience the 'Old Town' city centers close to the city's culturally, there is a gesture of gentrification caused by tourism, which is also seen today in Haliç, Karaköy and Balat. This situation is manifested in such areas as Asmalımescit, where the buildings that fail to fulfill their original function undergo a change of function. In recent years, historical residences in the area have started to serve as food and beverage, entertainment venues and boutique hotels by changing function. As a result of these changes, in the direction of the economic and social processes that are experienced, it is inevitable that the structure and the close surroundings of the structure are also changed functionally, physically and socially. In this study, Asmalımescit neighborhood, where the social structures and physical surroundings have been changed due to the re-use of existing buildings as tourist oriented accommodation units such as hostel and boutique hotels has been researched. The aim of the study is to look at the spatial repercussions of the gentrification henomenon, which is highly influential on the economic, social and cultural image of the cities, and to emphasize the environmental and social effects of tourism-oriented urban transformation within the context of gentrification. In the study, the historical development of Asmalimescit neighborhood was discussed within the scope of physical and socio cultural changes. the rise of culture tourism and function changes of the buildings have been referred to as one of the major break points. Within the scope of the study; hotel structures in Asmalımescit region were determined on the map. Most of the hotel buildings are located on the streets of Asmalımescit and Meşrutiyet. Later, 12 hotel buildings on Asmalımescit Street, service periods of buildings, if any, repair and function changes and public uses of the buildings were determined. It is expected that this work will contribute to solving the problems experienced in urban parts that are undergoing a gentrification and job change. It is one of the conclusions reached that the historical features of the existing structures are restored and used for tourism purposes and contribute to the authentic value of the building's immediate surroundings. In this context, it can be said that the historical sites located in the city center such as Asmalimescit have an important tourism potential thanks to their authentic values. But it is also true that the uncontrolled and intensive function transformations transform Asmalımescit into a boutique hotel and cafeteria region. This changed the original identity of the settlement and led to social, physical and spatial changes.en_US
