A bibliometric analysis of studies on marine tourism using VOSviewer

Abstract

In this study, studies on marine tourism were examined by bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer. In this context, 416 studies were reached as a result of a search in all fields using the keyword "marine tourism" on the Web of Science (WOS) platform on 06.03.2022. According to the years, 272 articles, 123 papers, 16 review articles, 5 book chapters, 4 book reviews and 4 editorial materials were reached from 80 different fields, with the oldest 1990 and the newest 2023. The most publications were conductued in 2020 (79). It was determined that the fields with the highest number of publications on the subject were Environmental Sciences (127), Environmental Studies (86) and Hospitality Leisure Sport Tourism (76), and the researchers who published the most were Carvache-franco M. (7) and Luck M. (7). The most publications were made in Indonesia (81). The most cited publication was Hall (2001) (300 citations). The most commonly used keywords in the studies are marine tourism, eco- tourism and sustainable development.
